Wild Emus – Canberra – Australia

This Page is dedicated to an icon of the Australian Bush, an important symbol on the Australian Coate of Arms and one of only two truly flightless land dwelling Birds that call Australia home.

I was lucky enough to encounter wild Emus with Chicks in tow during the spring / summer breeding season of 2016 / 2017 near the Cotter Dam recreation Area around 12 Km on the southern outskirts of Canberra.

These are some of the photo’s I was extremely lucky to take.

I recently (mid June 2017) saw the two chicks that are shown in the header photo of this page and they were just shy of the accompanying adults size.

It was truly amazing to see how much they’d grown after 6 or so months. I’ll add these new photos to the gallery shortly for comparison.

In the meantime I hope you enjoy this brief encounter with these truly magnificent birds.

Cheers
