Tom Groggin Campground – N.S.W.

Situated at the bottom, southern end of Mount Kosciusko stretched out along the Murray River you will find the gorgeous bush camping and day use area of Tom Groggin.
Fishing, swimming, bushwalking and relaxing are popular activities and the campground is a regular haunt for holiday makers from Victoria, N.S.W. and the A.C.T. over the summer Christmas period.
This is a very large camping area suitable for all types of tent camping and more mobile camping scenarios.

The largest Mobile Home and Caravan owners will have no trouble finding somewhere reasonably level to park their vehicles here with a mixture of wide open paddock style and more sheltered bush sites amongst the Eucalypts available.

The campground is serviced by a well graded, all weather access gravel road that winds its way through the camping areas.

Two un-serviced pit toilets can be found toward the lower end of the campground. Hand washing facilities are supplied here from the two water tanks but you will need to supply your own loo paper.

Wooden Picnic Tables and formal metal shrouded campfire infrastructure is supplied at some but not all of the camping sites in this area, however plenty of informal fire pits can be found scattered throughout the campground.

Drinking quality water is readily available from the nearby Murray River but it is advisable to boil or treat river water prior to drinking to reduce the risk of infection from water borne parasites such as Gardia.

Page Visits :

Kangaroos are prominent around the camping areas and the odd emu can also be spotted from time to time.

Trout fishing is reasonable in the Murray River here with large numbers of smaller browns and Rainbows below the 20cm mark.

The odd larger fish is seen from time to time and are more prominent in the early part of the season.

The water that stretches along the campground area is a mixture of riffles and deeper holes and can make for some exciting fly casting.

Following the road through the campground past the toilet block you will eventually come to a crossing upstream of the campground on the Murray River. This is a 4WD only area and crossing the river at this location is the Northern gateway to the Victorian Alps.

There is also no phone access here.

Whatever your interest Tom Groggin is a fantastic venue for staging other adventures in and around the Southern End of the Kosciusko National Park.

I hope you enjoy your visit here.

Cheers
